SIUC summer enrollment stays steady as expected
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Summer enrollment at Southern Illinois University Carbondale stands at 9,986, about the same as last summer and what University administrators expected.
"Our total enrollment is up by 15 students compared to last summer, so numbers are steady as we thought they would be," said Larry H. Dietz, SIUC's Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. "We continue to work diligently to provide quality services to our students, and to assist them in achieving their educational goals."
Figures show that of the 9,986, some 7,034 are enrolled on campus. In addition 2,936 students are enrolled off campus, primarily at military bases across the country. Another 16 are enrolled in classes at SIUC's campus in Nakajo, Japan.
Dietz said he knows some students elected to work full time this summer so they would have more money saved before they return to campus this fall.
While it is too early to project fall enrollment numbers, Dietz said he expects the number of first-time freshmen to be up compared to last fall.
SIUC has a rolling admissions policy and continues enrolling students through the first week of classes. Fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 23.
