Media Advisory: Women's Introduction to Engineering
High school sophomores participating in Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Women's Introduction to Engineering Program will construct a steel bridge and race a moon buggy on Monday, June 14, beginning about 2 p.m. The bridge project will take place in the courtyard between the Engineering and College of Applied Sciences and Arts buildings. The moon buggy event will take place on the west side of the Engineering Building near the boat dock.
The College of Engineering sponsors two sessions of the annual summer program for female students from across the state interested in science and engineering. In addition to the hands-on experiments and activities during the four-day program, women engineers will discuss their perspectives about the profession with the students.
On Wednesday, June 16, the last day of the first session, students will build model hovercrafts in Room A-208 of the Engineering Building and begin racing them in nearby hallways around 3 p.m.
Reporters and photographers are welcome to cover these activities. For more information, contact Hasan Sevim, associate dean of the college, at 618/453-4321.
