SIU Trustees OK administrative reorganization
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- As part of the ongoing effort to streamline and adapt administrative structures, Southern Illinois University Carbondale will reorganize umbrella administrative structures for various departments on campus including business practices, human resources, physical plant and public safety.
SIU Trustees approved the changes today (Thursday, June 10) at the Board's scheduled meeting in Edwardsville.
The changes, effective Aug. 1, will create an Executive Director for Administration and an Executive Director for Finance.
Catherine A. Hagler, who now serves as executive director of Facilities and Business Operations, will maintain the duties of Executive Director for Administration at her current salary and will oversee Plant and Service Operations, the Department of Public Safety and Shryock Auditorium/Arena Promotions.
SIUC will conduct an internal search to fill the Executive Director of Finance position. That position will oversee Human Resources/Payroll, Accounting Services, Labor and Employee Relations, Information Technology, Purchasing/Accounts Payable and the Center for Environmental Health and Safety.
Changes are moving ahead now because Robert H. York, executive director of Human Relations and Support, will retire July 31.
SIUC took a first look at reorganizing the area about a year ago when then-Vice Chancellor for Administration Glenn Poshard retired. At the time, it was understood that the structure would be revisited and re-evaluated. New recommendations also call for hiring a separate director of Labor and Employee Relations. York held dual responsibilities for the past year and has found that there is more work involved than one person can reasonably complete.
