Girls basketball camps feature new SIUC head coach By Yolanda Shelton

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Young female basketball players may perfect their games with the help of new Saluki women's head coach Dana Eikenberg at upcoming Southern Illinois University Carbondale summer camps.

Hurry. Registration closes a week before the start of each session.

Here's a breakdown of the various sessions in the 2004 Saluki Girls' Basketball Camps, which will meet in the SIU Arena:

  • Elementary Camp, June 7-10, for those in grades one-eight. Enroll in the morning session, 9 a.m.-noon, or afternoon session, from 1 to 4 p.m. Covers fundamentals of basketball, $75 for either session.

  • Individuals Camp, June 13-15, for those in grades six-12. To improve players' skills in competitive situations. Resident campers pay $220, day campers pay $185.

  • Position Camp, June 19-20, grades six-12. Focuses on offensive skills related to players' team positions. Residential campers pay $110, commuters pay $95.

Joining the head SIUC women's basketball coach will be current and previous Saluki women's teammates and several area high school coaches.

Camp strives to help youngsters learn more about the game while developing self-confidence, learning teamwork, self-motivation and developing positive mental attitudes.
