SIUC Super Student Scholarships awarded
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Karan Hustedt of Carbondale and Gabriel C. Smith of Murphysboro are winners of the 2004 Super Student Scholarships, sponsored by the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association and Student Alumni Council on the Carbondale campus.
Both students were honored at the Super Student Honors Dinner on Saturday, April 3, at SIUC. Chancellor and Mrs. Walter V. Wendler join the SIU Alumni Association in hosting the event.
Super Student Scholarships are valued at $500 each and are annually awarded to outstanding juniors at SIUC. In order to qualify, students must be currently employed, belong to at least two Registered Student Organizations, and have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5.
A closer look at this year's winners:

Hustedt, a sociology major, is an active member of the College of Liberal Arts Council Promotion Committee and a founding member and president of the undergraduate sociology club.
She is a Dean's List student, a University Honors Program scholarship recipient and a nominee for the American Sociological Society Honors Program. Hustedt also works as a supplemental instruction leader for SIUC Supplemental Instruction, planning and implementing study sessions for peer students studying sociology.

Smith, an industrial technology major, is vice president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers at SIUC and member of the National Association for Industrial Technology's SIUC chapter.
He is also an active member of the American Society for Quality at SIUC and a Dean's List student. Charles is married to Kelly Jo Smith of Murphysboro.
