Students from three states will be at the Southern Illinois Airport between Carbondale and Murphysboro on Saturday, April 24, for Southern Illinois University Carbondale's third annual Corporate Aviation/General Aviation Career Day. Between 80 and 100 high school and community college students, parents and teachers, along with approximately 30 volunteers from corporate and general aviation segments of the aviation industry, will participate.
The students will tour SIUC's aviation facilities, take part in presentations by corporate and general aviation representatives and receive materials on applying for admission to the University.
Students are coming from Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. Visiting corporate and general aviation aircraft will arrive at the airport between 8 and 9:15 a.m. The visiting students check in from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Up to 20 students will go on introductory flights starting at 9:45 a.m. while the remaining students tour SIUC's aviation training facilities.
Midwest Aviation in Paducah and Mid-Continental Aircraft in Hayti, Mo., are among the corporations participating.
After lunch, students attend presentations on careers and opportunities in corporate and general aviation fields, in addition to information on SIUC's nationally acclaimed aviation programs. From 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., students will tour the main campus, including the Student Recreation Center.
