Three students receive alumni scholarships

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Three students in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are receiving alumni scholarships this semester.

The recipients of the $1,000 awards are Brandon G. Fisher, a senior from Winchester; Lora K. Moulton, a senior from Jacksonville; and Melissa Jo Kennedy, a freshman from Danville. Fisher and Moulton are students in the college's architecture program; Kennedy is in the college's radiologic sciences program.

Academic achievement is the primary criteria for the alumni society scholarships, which go only to members of the families of CASA alumni.

"Mr. Fisher, Ms. Kennedy and Ms. Moulton are outstanding undergraduate students who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to their studies and professional aspirations," said CASA interim Dean Paul D. Sarvela.

The generosity and loyalty of CASA graduates and friends of the college make the awards possible, Sarvela said.

Strengthening the undergraduate scholarship program is among the goals of Southern at 150, the blueprint for the University's development by the time it reaches its 150th anniversary in 2019.
