Former President Clinton, others to eulogize Paul Simon

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Friends and colleagues will offer eulogies during the funeral service for former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon, set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Arena on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus.

Simon, founder and director of SIUC's Public Policy Institute, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the age of 75 from complications resulting from heart valve and single bypass surgery.

The Arena doors will open to the public at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Speakers during the two-hour service will include: Former President Bill Clinton, former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson from Wyoming; Abner Mikva, a former federal judge who served in the Illinois House with Simon; Pam Huey, a former student and Simon staff member; U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy from Massachusetts; former SIU Trustee William Norwood; Illinois Attorney General and former Simon staff member Lisa Madigan; and U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois.

Burial will be private.

Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 700 S. University Ave., Carbondale.
