SIU musical theater performances of ‘She Loves Me’ start Thursday  

The School of Theater and Dance and the School of Music will present “She Loves Me,” a whimsical musical tale of two co-workers who find themselves living for love letters from unknown pen pals. Performances are Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 29-March 3, in McLeod Theater. 


Saluki Takeover Tour returns to Florida

The Sunshine State was bathed in maroon last week as SIU officials, including Chancellor Austin Lane, visited with SIU alumni and friends throughout Florida, Feb. 19-23. The Saluki Takeover Tour included receptions in The Villages, Tampa, Naples, Miami and West Palm Beach. Lane, Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Wendell Williams and others visited Miami Dade College and Oxbridge Academy as part of the tour.


Reminder: Day of Giving is Wednesday 

The eighth annual SIU Day of Giving is Wednesday, Feb. 28. The 24-hour online Day of Giving has raised more than $14 million in its first seven years. Last year, more than $4 million was raised through more than 3,700 individual donations. Supporters are encouraged to visit siuday.siu.edu on Wednesday and make a gift of any size. Donations can be directed to any college, unit, program or initiative.


Open forums for College of Business and Analytics dean finalists begin Wednesday

Two candidates for dean of the College of Business and Analytics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will meet with faculty, staff and students during their respective open forums on Wednesday, Feb. 28 and March 5.


Faculty, staff invited to discuss student mental health, basic needs 

Faculty and staff are invited to informational sessions starting Wednesday, Feb. 28, that will focus on current trends regarding addressing mental health conditions and basic needs insecurities on college campuses.


SIU’s student cybersecurity team claims Illinois state title 

The Security Dawgs, under the guidance of Matt Nicklin, faculty adviser and assistant lecturer, School of Computing, clinched the top spot at the Illinois State Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition on Feb. 17. The team’s next challenge will be at the Midwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, March 15-16.


Eclipse info session is Wednesday  

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend an upcoming information session to learn more about events, programs and the campus plan for the April 8 total solar eclipse. People can attend in person at Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library or via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, or 11 a.m. to noon on March 5. Reminder: Provost Faculty Fellow program applications open 

The deadline for tenured SIU Carbondale faculty to participate in the Provost Faculty Fellow program for the fall 2024 semester with possible renewal in spring 2025 is April 1.


Reminder: Diversity Champion Awards nominations due Thursday

Nominations are now being accepted for the Diversity Champion Awards, presented annually to members of the SIU community who exemplify anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion through community engagement, programming, creation of best practices and initiatives, implementation of policies and procedures, training and mentoring. All nominations must be submitted online by Thursday, Feb. 29.
