What a difference a day makes – SIU Day of Giving 2024 

The eighth annual SIU Day of Giving is Wednesday, Feb. 28, and expectations are higher than ever.

Vice Chancellor for Research Faculty Fellow program applications open 

Applications will be accepted for tenured SIU Carbondale faculty to participate in the Office of Vice Chancellor for Research Faculty Fellow program that begins July 1. The deadline to apply is April 1.

SIU faculty, students to be honored at All Ag Banquet Friday 

Faculty members and several students will receive honors at the 72nd All Ag Banquet on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Student Center. Organized by the College of Agricultural, Life and Physical Sciences, the banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour in the International Lounge at the SIU Student Center, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and award presentations at 7:30.

SIU hosts ‘STEM University’ for scouts on Saturday 

More than 200 Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and adult leaders from around the area will invade SIU Carbondale this weekend to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The ninth annual Boy Scouts of America/SIU STEM University event begins Saturday morning at the Neckers Science Building.

SIU Law to honor five alumni at 50th anniversary gala March 23 

Five distinguished graduates of the Southern Illinois University School of Law will be honored when the law school holds its 50th anniversary gala on March 23. Tickets are required and seating is still available. The deadline for ordering tickets is Friday, Feb. 23.

Spirit Fridays are for maroon

William Becque, campus recreation coordinator, Recreational Sports and Services, shows that Saluki spirit is always in style, whether indoors or outdoors. The men’s baseball team opens the home schedule against Butler at Itchy Jones Stadium at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.  

Reminder: Conversation of understanding session is Monday 

A Conversation of Understanding on Monday, Feb. 26, will feature students from throughout the SIU System who will share their insights into how student success plays a pivotal role in the educational landscape. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live virtual discussion at noon.

Reminder: Budget development training sessions begin Monday 

Training sessions are next week for staff and faculty who are involved in the budget process for fiscal year 2025, which begins July 1. There is new information about the budget process this year, so the university’s Budget Office is encouraging everyone involved in the process to attend.

Reminder: Virtual appointments available for faculty, staff regalia sale on March 4 

Online appointments for virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia, are available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. March 4. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than renting are also welcome.
