Saluki Takeover Tour visits Nashville

The Saluki Takeover Tour through Nashville, Tennessee, which ended on Feb. 14, gave university officials the chance to visit local high schools to tell the SIU story, sign a partnership with Nashville State Community College and visit with alumni, including Saluki Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Philip and Pamela Pfeffer.


Nashville State, SIU Carbondale ink agreement to improve access for students 

SIU Carbondale and Nashville State Community College forged a partnership Feb. 13 that provides graduates who earned their associate degrees with an obstacle-free path to earn their bachelor’s degrees in 10 academic programs. The agreement includes the Saluki Step Ahead program and is SIU’s first such pact in Tennessee.


You’re invited to eclipse info sessions  

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend an upcoming information session to learn more about events, programs and the campus plan for the April 8 total solar eclipse. People can attend in person at Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library or via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 28 or 11 a.m. to noon March 5. Visit the eclipse website to get Zoom links and to learn more about getting involved.


Roundtable talks to examine support for first-year students

Faculty, staff and graduate assistants are invited to attend two first year experience roundtable discussions this semester about supporting students in their first year at SIU Carbondale.


SIU System ADEI award to honor trailblazing justice advocate 

The SIU Board of Trustees on Feb. 8 renamed the system’s ADEI lifetime achievement award to honor Dr. Wesley G. Robinson-McNeese, the system’s former director of diversity initiatives. The nomination deadline for this year’s award is March 15. 


Remember to wear maroon on Spirit Fridays

Kaitlyn Lamaster, assistant lecturer in the School of Forestry and Horticulture, is proudly wearing her maroon. There are several opportunities for Saluki fans to show support this week. The men’s basketball team hosts nationally ranked Indiana State at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, and Murray State at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21. The SIU men’s and women’s track teams close out the regular season by hosting the Don DeNoon Invitational starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Student Recreation Center. Budget development training sessions set  

Training sessions are set for staff and faculty who are involved in the budget process for fiscal year 2025, which begins July 1. There is new information about the budget process this year, so the university’s Budget Office is encouraging everyone involved in the process to attend.


Reminder: Sturgis Public Service Award nomination deadline is next week

Nominations for the Lindell W. Sturgis Memorial Public Service Award, which honors an SIU Carbondale employee for their community work away from campus, must be received by Wednesday, Feb. 21.
