The Student Recreation Center has a wide variety of equipment, facilities and services, and you can explore it all for free during Community Day 2024, set for 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14.


27th annual Celebrate Women event includes new scholarship and more

Tickets are available for the 27th annual Celebrate Women: Honoring Inclusive Excellence Benefit for Women’s Scholarships, March 28, in the SIU Banterra Center Helleny Pavilion, with the theme “No Limits: Women in Aviation. The event includes the establishment of a new scholarship in honor of longtime aviation faculty member Lorelei Ruiz, who recently retired.


Reminder: Prepare for inclement weather

Faculty and staff should take two important steps to prepare for inclement weather: review the campus policy and ensure that the university has your current cellphone number if you want to receive emergency text alerts.


Network Empowering Women brown bag lunch is Wednesday

Faculty and staff are invited to attend a brown bag lunch hosted by SIU Network Empowering Women (NEW) in the Faculty and Staff Lounge at Old Main in the Student Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Alexander Rodriguez, a two-degree SIU Carbondale alumnus, is the university’s new coordinator of the Hispanic/Latino Resource Center within the Student Multicultural Resource Center


SIU Aviation to offer aviation management program at Parkland College

SIU’s School of Aviation will offer accelerated bachelor’s degree aviation management classes starting this semester at Parkland College in Champaign. Taught by SIU Aviation faculty, the in-person classes will be every other weekend at the college’s Institute of Aviation and take about 16 months to complete.


Generous donations benefit SIU students and provide holiday decor

The giving spirit was bright at SIU over the holiday season with successful food drives that yielded donations from campus and the community for the Saluki Food Pantry.


Creative Futures art scholarship competition open to Illinois high school students

The School of Art and Design is presenting a statewide online art competition to celebrate the immense talent and creativity of Illinois high school juniors and seniors. The inaugural Creative Futures art competition carries up to $6,000 in SIU scholarships.


SIU’s Export Controls newsletter is available  

The monthly SIU Export Controls newsletter for December 2023 is available. The newsletter provides a resource for current export control issues and events that could affect SIU and its faculty. This edition includes guidelines for international collaborations and conducting research abroad.
