Physician assistant program grads achieve 100% pass rate on national boards

The most recent graduates of the SIU School of Medicine physician assistant program achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate on the national certification test administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, continuing the program's successful history.


Sharp Museum dedication is Friday

SIU Carbondale, the SIU Foundation and the University Museum are hosting a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, for the dedication of the museum’s new name, Sharp Museum. The unveiling ceremony will honor a $1 million donation made by Professor James Franklin Sharp. Sharp will be joined by SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane, SIU System President Dan Mahony, Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations Matt Kupec and many others as the new name is unveiled.


Discrimination-free and harassment-free training emails sent  

SIU Carbondale faculty and staff should have received on Oct. 18 an email to complete federally mandated training for maintaining a discrimination-free and harassment-free campus. The email contains the subject “SIU Mandatory Employee Training” and was sent by Safe Colleges, appearing from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Employees with more than one siu.edu email address can contact the Office of Equity and Compliance for assistance. All faculty, staff, graduate assistants, undergraduate assistants, student employees, extra-help employees and volunteers must complete the training by Dec. 1, 2023.  If you need assistance or have questions, contact the Office of Equity and Compliance at odetraining@siu.edu or 618-453-4807. 


Conversation on SIU’s response to recent affirmative action ruling is Oct. 24 

A Conversation of Understanding next week will look at the SIU System’s response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court affirmative action ruling and focus on steps that can be taken to advance diversity and equity goals. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members are invited to join the live, virtual discussion at noon Tuesday, Oct. 24.


SIU’s Paul Simon Institute hosts Ray and Darin LaHood Oct. 30 

The political careers of a well-known Illinois political father-son duo and a special program that looks to the next 25 years of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute is at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Student Center's International Lounge. RSVP by Monday, Oct. 23, is encouraged but not required.


Homecoming brings a warm maroon feeling

As maroon-clad alumni return to campus this weekend for Homecoming, one visit will likely be to the iconic residence halls, shown by Kendra Bumpus, director of University Housing and Residence Life. On Saturday, Oct. 21, the No. 12 Saluki football team hosts top-ranked and undefeated South Dakota State at 2 p.m. in Saluki Stadium. The day will also mark the reunion of the 1983 national championship football team, where Saluki Hall of Fame coach Rey Dempsey, the homecoming parade grand marshal, will be the honorary coin toss captain. There will also be a special Saluki Athletics Hall of Fame recognition. The women’s volleyball team hosts Valparaiso at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, and University of Illinois Chicago at 5 p.m. Saturday, both at Davies Gym. SIU String Orchestra brings in ‘Autumn Serenades’ on Sunday

The string orchestral talents of SIU Carbondale students and faculty will help audiences ease into the fall on Sunday, Oct. 22.


Employees asked to self-identify veteran, disability status  

SIU Carbondale Human Resources, Veteran Services and Office for Access and Accommodations are asking employees to self-identify disability or veteran status. While employees can update their responses at any time, they are encouraged to submit information before Oct. 30 for reporting cycle needs. All responses will be kept confidential within Human Resources.
