A free, streamlined application for Southern Illinois high school students

High school students from the Southern Illinois region can take advantage of a free, streamlined application process for SIU Carbondale, if they start their senior year with a GPA of 2.75 or better. All they need to do is check their email, click a button and answer a few simple questions.


SIU Carbondale, Dallas College sign Saluki Step Ahead agreement

SIU Carbondale strengthened its commitment to students in the North Texas region on Oct. 12 with an agreement to bring the expertise of a doctoral research university to qualified Dallas College students by providing the option to earn their bachelor’s degrees remotely and at a lower cost in 12 academic programs.


300 students coming to campus for Education Day

About 300 high school and community college students who are planning to study education will take part in an action-packed Education Day celebration at the Student Center on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Education Day is part of SIU’s multipronged response to the teacher shortage.


Flying Salukis easily surge to a 12th straight regional crown, head to nationals

The Flying Salukis once again proved their mettle in an overpowering performance to win a 12th straight National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Region VIII championship.


Paul Simon Institute to host award-winning author Samuel Freedman

Samuel Freedman, an award-winning author and professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, will join the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, for a virtual discussion on the quest to advance civil rights in the United States. The virtual discussion via Zoom is free and open to the public, but registration is required.


Great Glass Pumpkin Patch sale is Saturday  

The talents of students in the glass program will be on display with the annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, Oct. 21.


Reminder: Mandatory cybersecurity training deadline is Friday

The deadline to complete the university’s cybersecurity training for faculty and staff is Friday, Oct. 20. The training is mandatory for all SIU Carbondale faculty and staff, extra help and volunteers as well as the SIU President’s Office and all SIU System Office staff members. Employees with the SIU School of Medicine in both Carbondale and Springfield are exempt from this training; they have a separate cybersecurity training course. The training takes about one hour to complete.


Reminder: Honorary degree/service award nomination deadline is Wednesday  

The university is now accepting nominations for honorary degrees and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2024 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Oct 18.


Seats remain for leadership training workshops for staff

Seats remain for free leadership training workshops — The Roles of a Leader — being offered in November by the Staff Advisory Committee for the SIU System.
