SIU plans activities for annular solar eclipse on Oct. 14 

A naturally occurring warm-up for the total solar eclipse in April will happen in October, and SIU Carbondale is planning activities that will help the public enjoy and learn from it. 


Special events highlight LGBTQ+ History Month in October

The university is commemorating October as LGBTQ+ History Month with the theme of “History, Community, Resilience.” Festivities begin with a Pride March at 5 p.m. today (Oct. 2) from the front of the Communications Building to the Old Main Room of the Student Center at 5:30 p.m.


SIU dedicates portrait by artist Herbert Fink of ‘education senator’ who helped transform institution

A lithograph of Illinois state Sen. John G. Gilbert by renowned artist Herbert Fink was unveiled Sept. 29 at the entrance to Morris Library’s browsing room. Gilbert worked alongside SIU President Delyte W. Morris in helping transform SIU Carbondale from a small teachers college to a major university in the 1960s and 1970s.


SIU to host 1,000 students for World Languages Day on Tuesday 

In celebration of World Languages and Cultures Day on Tuesday, Oct. 3, SIU Carbondale will host 1,000 students from 14 area high schools for a day of special experiences focusing on world languages, cultures and how language works.


SIU honors 2023 Families of the Year

SIU Carbondale honored two families as the 2023 Saluki Family of the Year winners during Family Weekend, Sept. 29-Oct. 1.


Blood drive set for Wednesday

The American Red Cross and SIU Carbondale will host the 14th annual Homecoming Blood Drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Student Center Renaissance Room. View the flyer for more information, including how to schedule an appointment.


Reminder: Virtual appointments for faculty, staff regalia sale are Thursday

A virtual faculty and staff regalia sale through Herff Jones, a national provider of custom regalia, is planned. Graduate students wishing to purchase regalia rather than rent are also welcome. Mark Krevin, the university’s Herff Jones representative, will be available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, via online appointment to assist faculty and staff in ordering regalia.
