Former Watergate prosecutor to discuss pioneering career

Former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks will discuss her pioneering career and the barriers that women are still facing when she presents the Hiram H. Lesar Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the SIU School of Law.


University breaks ground on SIU Credit Union Event Center

University officials on Wednesday, Sept. 27, broke ground for the SIU Credit Union Event Center, which will act as a hub for the thousands of visitors who come to the Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center annually. The facility is funded by a $500,000 SIU Credit Union donation.

Mandatory Annual Ethics Act Training begins Sunday 

Mandatory 2023 annual Ethics Act training for all SIU Carbondale faculty, staff, graduate assistants, undergraduate assistants, volunteers, student workers and extra help workers takes place Oct. 1-31 on the D2L platform. School of Medicine employees located on the Carbondale campus will complete training using HealthStream.

SIU concert choir, wind ensemble bring ‘Order and Chaos’ on Oct. 3

The university's Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble will perform a variety of works based on order and chaos when they present “PRISM: Order and Chaos” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Shryock Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public. 


University honors course proposal deadline is Oct. 30

The University Honors Program is accepting course proposals from faculty for fall 2024 and spring 2025 UHON seminars.  Courses may be proposed in the faculty’s area of choice or along the theme for the year, which is “Play and Civilization: History, theory, practice.”


Seats remain for leadership training workshops for staff

Seats remain for free leadership training workshops — Unleash Initiative and Enhance Decisions — being offered in October by the Staff Advisory Committee for the SIU System.


Kick off Family Weekend by wearing maroon on Friday

Saluki Spirit will be everywhere during Family Weekend, with a busy sports slate that includes the No. 10-ranked Saluki football team hosting Missouri State at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Saluki Stadium. On Sunday, Oct. 1, outfielder Bailey Caylor, a senior majoring in sport administration (pictured), and the women’s softball team host Jefferson College in a doubleheader starting at noon at Charlotte West Stadium. The women’s soccer team hosts Evansville at 6 p.m. today (Sept. 28) at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex, and women’s volleyball hosts Evansville at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, and Indiana State at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, both at Davies Gym. The women’s golf team hosts the Saluki Invitational at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3. Juniper Oxford is SIU’s new LGBTQ center coordinator

Juniper Oxford, an educator and historian of gender and sexuality, is the new coordinator of the LGBTQ Resource Center within the Student Multicultural Resource Center.
