SIU Carbondale's logo showcases Saluki spirit  

You may have noticed a new look for SIU Today, on banners across campus and on billboards. The logo for SIU Carbondale incorporates elements of the university’s academic logo with the dog head of Saluki athletics.  


How to stay safe in extreme heat   

With the extreme heat and humidity levels, Dr. Andrew Riffey, medical chief of staff, Student Health Services, provides tips on how to prevent heat-related illnesses and what to do if we are not feeling well.


SIU Carbondale accepting honorary degree/service award nominations

The university is now accepting nominations for honorary degrees and distinguished service awards that will be presented at May 2024 commencement ceremonies. The nomination deadline is Oct 18.


University Museum fall 2023 exhibitions to feature alumni work  

An exhibition showcasing the works of two SIU Carbondale alumni is among the highlights at University Museum this fall. “Trajectory: Arch Connelly III and Jimmy Wright” will continue through Dec. 15 in the museum’s North Hall Mitchell Gallery. 


Learn about emergency preparedness at SIU  

As the fall semester gets underway, now is a good time to learn about emergency preparedness on campus. The university has outlined procedures for several scenarios. Visit the emergency preparedness website, emergency.siu.edu 


Help SIU save energy during the extreme heat 

In an effort to eliminate any wasteful use of energy on campus and reduce costs, the university is asking employees and students to help us conserve energy, especially during this heat wave. 


SIU debate/political experts: GOP presidential debate a chance to break out 

SIU faculty Todd Graham, John Shaw, John Jackson and Kenneth Mulligan offered some insight into what to expect and the impact of the first Republican presidential debate on Aug. 23.


Football home opener ticket discount extended  

SIU Athletics has extended the $5 ticket offer for SIU faculty and staff for the Saluki football home opener against Austin Peay at 6 p.m. Sept. 2. The ticket discount expires at 5 p.m. today, Aug. 25. 


Twilight Parade canceled 

Because of excessive heat, the Twilight Parade planned for today at the 2023 Du Quoin State Fair has been canceled. The fair will open today, with SIU Day set for Sept. 2.


Saluki Open Pickleball Tournament starts Friday 

Recreational Sports and Services is hosting more than 200 people from across the nation today through Sunday, Aug. 25-27, for the 2023 Saluki Open Pickleball Tournament.
