Racial justice champion to give Morton-Kenney Lecture

Elizabeth Hinton, a renowned professor of law and African American studies at Yale University, will deliver the Morton-Kenney Public Affairs Lecture on Thursday, Oct.  6. The lecture is at 6 p.m. in Student Center Ballroom B. Hinton is one of the nation’s leading experts on poverty, racial inequality, urban unrest and criminal justice reform. She has also conducted extensive research on racial unrest in Cairo, Illinois.


The Princeton Review ranks SIU among Midwest’s best

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is one of the best universities in the Midwest, according to Princeton Review’s “Best of the Midwest” feature.

Federally mandated training for maintaining a discrimination-free campus begins Wednesday, Oct. 5, and is due by Nov. 15, 2022.

Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra season features varied works for all to enjoy

An exciting lineup is ahead as the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra’s 2022-23 season gets underway this fall. The symphony opens its season with a smaller ensemble performing music of Joseph Haydn, Mozart, Brahms and Aaron Copland at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship, 105 N. Parrish Lane. Concert proceeds will benefit a local charity for people without homes.


SIU’s inaugural Little Grassy Get Down Festival Oct. 7-9 promises fun for all

Little Grassy Get Down, a family friendly festival, is making its debut at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 7-9. The event is filled with music, activities and fun for all ages.


SIU to host about 900 students for World Languages Day 2022 

In celebration of World Languages Day on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the university is hosting about 900 students from 16 area high schools for a day of special experiences focusing on world languages, cultures, and how language works.
