Starting Tuesday, June 10, the SIU Simmons Law School will offer a series of mobile legal clinics to provide free, onsite assistance for senior citizens 60 or older wanting to prepare health care power of attorney.
SIU Alumni Association celebrates 618 Day with community events, scholarship drive
The SIU Alumni Association is marking 618 Day on Wednesday, June 18, with a series of events and a fundraising campaign aimed at expanding scholarship support for local students attending SIU Carbondale.
Migration to Slate from Navigate complete
As of May 31, the student communications system Navigate is no longer accessible, and notes have been migrated to Slate. Over 4,400 appointments have already taken place in Slate, with progress reports and tutoring tools launching this fall. Training is available — learn more at myfuture.siu.edu.
SIU President Mahony: ‘Wisdom for New Graduates’
SIU System President Dan Mahony’s “Office Hours” podcast episode “Wisdom for New Graduates” shares reflections from spring 2025 graduates and accomplished SIU alumni, including Terita M. Walker, a 2001 SIU Carbondale graduate who is principal of Denver East High School and recently named the 2025 Colorado High School Principal of the Year.
New Arts Jazztet will perform Sunday
Members of the New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty and guests, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua St., Carbondale. NAJ was formed in 1984 by several School of Music faculty and has been in residence from that time. The performance will celebrate the music of Donald Byrd, George Cables, Russ Freeman, Larry Gales, Wolfgang Lackerschmid and Joachim Mencel. The service will also be livestreamed on the Jazz Vespers at Epiphany Facebook page.
SIU Today schedule adjusted for Juneteenth
In the third week of June, SIU Today will be published on Wednesday, June 18, because the university is closed on Thursday, June 19, to observe Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The submission deadline for the June 18 issue will be 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 16.
