From the Chancellor

Plan now for great fall events

Part of our mission to nurture student success involves creating a vibrant campus life for our students. With that in mind, I want to take a moment to look ahead to two really great fall events that help connect Salukis to their campus and encourage school spirit — Family Weekend and Homecoming.

SIU welcoming students in a big way

As a new school year begins, the university will roll out the welcome mat in grand Saluki style for new and returning students. A wide variety of special activities are planned during Saluki Startup and Weeks of Welcome.

Parking Division to open satellite office in Student Center

To benefit faculty, staff, students and visitors, the Department of Public Safety Parking Division will have an auxiliary office in the Student Center beginning Monday.

Railroad crossing work may necessitate traffic detours

Motorists coming to and from the university need to plan alternate routes next week as Canadian National Railroad makes repairs to railroad crossings in Carbondale.

Tickets available for concert and dinner to benefit Morris Library

The annual Friends of Morris Library fundraising effort to support the library’s mission will be Sept. 22.

Using supercomputers to monitor the global food supply

For the last two years, Chet Langin, OIT research coordinator, has worked with researchers to use the high performance computing cluster, fondly known as the “BigDawg,” to conduct a variety of projects.
