Debate team wins national title again

The university’s Debate Team did it again! The duo of Josh Rivera and Zach Schneider won the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence (NPTE), making them national champions in collegiate parliamentary debate. More


Energy storage symposium is April 1

Experts in the field of energy storage will participate in a symposium on April 1 in the Student Center’s Mississippi Room. The discussion, from 9 a.m. to noon, will feature presentations on topics that include new electrolytes and redo-active polymers for advanced battery and new materials for supercapacitor electrodes. Symposium hosts are the university’s Materials Technology Center, the Advanced Coal and Energy Research Center and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Joint Center for Energy Storage Research. The university’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is the sponsor.


Saluki ‘App’ competition deadline is Friday

The submission deadline for the annual ‘Saluki App Competition’ is extended to March 27. The competition allows for students and student-led teams to compete for prizes by creating and submitting software applications for mobile devices to inspire SIU students’ creativity and entrepreneurship. Six monetary prizes will be given, both for top vote (via online voting) and judged scores. Rules and entry forms are available at siu.launcht.com. Presentation to look at ‘consumer profiling’

‘Workout Wednesday’ examines occupational wellness

The WellSIU “Workout Wednesday” from noon to 2 p.m., March 25, will focus on occupational wellness. To learn more about the benefits of occupational wellness, visit the Thompson Point Fitness Center in Lentz Hall. During that time, any faculty, staff or retiree will have the opportunity to use the facility for free.
