Women's leadership event on tap at Touch of Nature
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Carbondale this month will play host to two days of leadership enrichment and personal development for female students, all in one picturesque nature setting.
The event, “Lifting as We Climb: Empowering Women through Community and Leadership,” is set for Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at Touch of Nature Environmental Center. The event will begin at 4:30 that Friday and end by 4 p.m. that Saturday.
Registration deadline is March 23, and the application deadline for a limited number of scholarships is March 14. There is a $20 registration fee, which covers conference materials and activities, refreshments, food and transportation, if needed. The bus will leave the Student Center at 4 p.m. March 30.
Limited scholarships available to cover registration
The program is open to women students at SIU. This year, faculty and staff have the opportunity to donate the registration fee for one or more students in need.
Organizers will be offering scholarships to those that want to attend, but cannot afford the registration fee. If interested, contact Leslie Brock with University Conference Services at 618/453-1141 or lagodwin@siu.edu.
Program lifts women up
The event will bring students and others together to network, hone their leadership skills, engage in interactive discussions, and reflect on their own leadership qualities and what they have to offer in their respective roles at SIU and beyond.
Tarnisha Green, director of Success in Engineering through Excellence and Diversity, said organizers received positive feedback after last year’s inaugural event.
“We believe that this event is both empowering, timely, and very beneficial to all that attend,” Green said. “We want to continue the tradition of women empowerment.”
