New agreement helps engineering students earn two degrees in five years

CARBONDALE, Ill. – A new cooperative agreement between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a college in Missouri will help STEM students earn two undergraduate degrees in just five years, including an engineering degree at SIU.

The new dual degree agreement will allow qualified students to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematical science or physics at Westminster in three years.

Subsequently, those students can earn Bachelor of Science degree in select SIU engineering programs in just two years. Those programs include civil and environmental engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.

SIU recently signed the memorandum of understanding with Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. SIU officials expect the first cohort of students who plan to enroll in the program to being doing so in fall 2018.
