SIU alumnus, filmmaker returns to campus this week

CARBONDALE, Ill. – A 2001 alumnus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Radio, Television, and Digital Media program is returning to campus this week for workshops with students and the public. 

Michael Cioni, senior vice president of innovation for Panavision, will be on campus Thursday and Friday, Oct. 19 and 20. Cioni is product director of the company’s new camera, the Millennium DXL. 

Cioni will have two public presentations “Preparing Yourself for a New Cinema Landscape,” with sessions at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., Thursday, in Lawson Hall, Room 161. On Friday, the sessions directed toward students deals with the company’s new camera. Those sessions are at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., in the Communications Building, Room 1116. The workshops are free. 

Cioni was involved in the creation of the “alt.news 26:46” series, an award-winning nationally recognized student produced news magazine at SIU Carbondale while he was a student here. Since graduation, Cioni has credits on more than 150 feature films including “42,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and “Muppets Most Wanted.”
