“Vanya on the Plains” launches Kleinau Theatre season
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Elijah has a hard job. He’s a “content moderator,” coping with the technological divide that separates him from his family.
“Vanya on the Plains,” written and directed by SIU doctoral student Jason Hedrick, is the first full performance of the Marion Kleinau Theatre season at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The performance runs Sept. 28-30, with shows beginning at 8 p.m. The theater is on the second floor of the Communications Building.
In this performance, a father casts a family production of Anton Chekov’s “Uncle Vanya” in an attempt to bridge the gap he feels with his family. However, those in the Plains have long forgotten about “theatre" and staging a play proves a strange and difficult endeavor.
Seating is limited and there is no seating once the performance begins. Tickets are $7, with student tickets at $5. Ticket sales are cash only, but reserve tickets are available by calling 618/453-5738.
