SIU families to celebrate Superheroes

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- “Celebrating Superheroes” is the theme for the fall 2017 Southern Illinois University Carbondale Family Carnival, a morning of fun and games for all students with families.

The carnival is completely free and takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 26 in the Student Recreation Center’s West Gymnasium.

The whole family is welcome to join in the fun. Dress as your favorite superhero and participate in games, a costume contest, arts and crafts, and more. There will also be snacks, prizes and other activities. It’s a great chance to get acquainted with other Saluki families while children play together.

In addition, families can visit dozens of information tables to learn about the many resources available to them at SIU and in the surrounding region to help them succeed. They’ll discover information about the academic help, leisure and recreational opportunities, health resources and various other types of support offered through SIU and the community.

Participants will present their SIU ID cards when checking in. All children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

The SIU Family Carnival: Celebrating Superheroes is a collaborative event involving numerous campus units and departments as well as community organizations.
