SIU agreement helps Kaskaskia students
CARBONDALE, Ill. – An agreement between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Kaskaskia College will streamline the path for Kaskaskia graduates to transfer into specific SIU programs.
The agreement, signed June 26 at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, allows Kaskaskia students who earned associate in applied science degrees in three select programs to transfer smoothly into bachelor degree programs at SIU Carbondale.
Students may transfer into the following SIU bachelor degree programs:
- Technical resource management – from Kaskaskia College’s construction project management program.
- Criminology and criminal justice – from Kaskaskia College’s criminal justice program.
- Animal science specialization in production – from Kaskaskia College’s animal science program.
Kaskaskia College students who complete these programs and meet SIU Carbondale’s admission requirements may enter their respective bachelor degree programs, bringing applicable credit hours with them.
“SIU is pleased to finalize a new articulation agreement with Kaskaskia College,” Susan M. Ford, SIU’s interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, said. “We already have a strong partnership with Kaskaskia College and it is great to be able to grow this relationship. We continue to be present on the Kaskaskia campus in the SIU Service Center and at recruitment events throughout the school year.”
Greg Labyak, vice president of instructional services at Kaskaskia College, agreed
“It is a great pleasure to announce the implementation of these new articulation agreements, which offer a smooth pathway for many Kaskaskia College graduates seeking a baccalaureate
degree in their chosen fields at SIU,” said Labyak. “Agriculture and criminal justice are among our most robust programs, and our new construction project management degree responds directly to employer needs and shows great growth potential. These agreements are the product of exemplary collaboration between the two institutions.”
George Evans, dean of career and technical education at Kaskaskia College, said the college was pleased to collaborate with SIU.
“It’s agreements like these that provide stronger and more efficient learning avenues for the students in our district,” he said.
SIU and Kaskaskia College have several articulation agreements already, including programs in business and engineering.
