Summer flexible schedule pilot program starts in June

SIU is launching a pilot summer flexible schedule program that will allow many employees to extend their workdays on Monday through Thursday in order to take Friday afternoons off. The pilot program, which will take place June 1 through July 31, is open to all employees with the approval of their supervisors, although some departments may not be able to offer a flexible schedule due to operational needs.

Employees who are approved for the program will work 45 minutes longer on Mondays through Thursdays if they typically work 7.5 hours daily or 60 minutes if they work 8 hours. The Friday of the “flex” week, the employee will be required to work 4 or 4.5 hours of the day, and be “flexed” the remaining 3 or 4 hours of the day. Eligible employees who want to participate must submit a monthly work schedule one week in advance of June and one week in advance of July for approval by the supervisor.

Employees should review the outline of the program before submitting requests to participate. Employees may contact Labor and Employee Relations at 453-6691 with questions. Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement may also contact their union representatives with questions.
