Chevalier named associate provost
The SIU Board of Trustees today (April 6) appointed Lizette R. Chevalier associate provost for academic programs.
Chevalier has been serving as associate dean in the College of Engineering and a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. A faculty member since 1995, Chevalier has been associate dean since 2012, and acting chair in the Department of Mining and Mineral Resources Engineering since 2014.
The associate provost for academic programs has primary administrative responsibility for development and coordination of academic and curricular matters on the campus. Specific duties include: providing oversight and management of undergraduate and academic and curricular matters; coordinate with the Graduate Dean on graduate and academic and curricular matters; overseeing internal and external academic program reviews and accreditations; serves as the liaison to the Faculty Senate and Graduate Council on program changes; addresses students’ academic problems brought to attention of the chancellor or provost; oversees student academic appeals, and oversees the preparation and submission of state legislative reports.
Chevalier served as acting associate dean in the College of Engineering from 2010 to 2012, and served as chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2002 to 2008. She became a full professor in 2007.
Chevalier earned her bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1988 from Wayne State University in Detroit and master's and doctoral degrees in 1990 and 1994 respectively from Michigan State University.
She received a University Women of Distinction Award in 2005.
