Women’s leadership retreat is next month

The event, “Women’s Leadership Retreat: Lifting as We Climb,” is set for Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, at Touch of Nature Environmental Center. Registration deadline is March 31. There is a $10 registration fee, which covers meals and activities.
The program is open to women students at SIU, and female staff members are welcome to attend as well.

Renada Greer, director of Student Support Services at SIU, will give the keynote speech “Empowered to Lead with Excellence.” An alumna of SIU, Greer has more than 10 years of experience in higher education and a doctorate in educational administration.
“She is truly passionate about helping students achieve their personal, academic and career goals,” said Tarnisha Green, director of Success in Engineering through Excellence and Diversity at SIU, and doctoral student. “She is a true example of being a woman in leadership and we look forward to learning what she has to share.”
Green said women students should unite and find a common bond in leadership.
“This retreat will focus on enhancing and reinforcing the skills needed for our female students to become great leaders at SIU, in their communities, and in their careers,” she said.
Green said those attending will learn how to build closer bonds with one another through interactive discussions, presentations and networking sessions. The presentations will include activities on topics related to personal branding, women leaders and stress/mental health and leading with a purpose, among other topics. Those attending also can choose to participate in a high ropes challenge for an additional charge.
Transportation to the retreat will be provided upon request. Some registration fee waivers are available for the event. Go here to learn how to apply.
The event is sponsored by the Center for Service Learning and Volunteerism, the Division of Student Affairs, New Student Programs, the Society of Women Engineers, the Success in Engineering Through Excellence and Diversity and the Women’s Resource Center.
