‘In Service of Venus’ hits Kleinau stage this week
Digital matchmaking, “hookup” apps, service industries and body image come together in “In Service of Venus: A Show About Loving, Dating and Serving. And Jellyfish,” a solo and group performance, playing in the Marion Kleinau Theater
The performances in the Communications Building are Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 23-25.
SIU communications studies doctoral student Anna Wilcoxen wrote the performance and helms it with co-director Jason Hedrick, also a communication studies doctoral student.
Performances begin at 8 p.m. Seating is limited and there is no seating once the performance begins. Tickets are $7, $5 for SIU students with student identification, and are available at the door beginning one hour before the performance. Reserve tickets in advance at 618/453-5618. The performance includes mature themes.
“In Service of Venus” reveals the connections between digital romance and service economy labor, the precarious lives of workers and the panicked “need” to retain a youthful body, or be deemed worthless, is no longer confined to the realm of finding love.
