Automotive technology students earn scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Eighteen students enrolled in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s nationally recognized automotive technology program have earned scholarships. 

The 20 awards from 12 different scholarships were presented in conjunction with the department’s annual advisory committee meeting on Dec. 1.  Many of the donating companies had representatives on hand to present awards to students. The awards, including partial tuition waivers, ranged from $500 to $2,500.  The total amount of awards was just over $19,200. 

Scholarship winners, by hometown and year in school, are:

ILLINOIS

  • Belleville: Tara Rodgers, junior, Automotive Parts and Service Alliance (APSA) & Ralph Silverman Memorial Scholarship
  • Carbondale: Austin Simmons, senior, Dale Flener Automotive Scholarship
  • Capron: Amanda Moravec, sophomore, Edward Wright Memorial Scholarship
  • Carol Stream: Kyle Palermo, senior, American Honda Motor Company, Inc. Scholarship
  • Champaign: Aaron Weckhorst, senior, Duncan and Wilma Lampman Scholarship
  • Cicero: Fidel Chavez, junior, College of Applied Sciences and Arts (CASA) partial tuition waiver
  • Coal City: Zechariah Hall, junior, Automotive Parts and Service Alliance (APSA) & Ralph Silverman Memorial Scholarship
  • Frankfort: James Gross, junior, Ally Dealer Services Scholarship
  • Gilberts: Alli Giblin, senior, Edward Wright Memorial Scholarship
  • Hoffman Estates: Matthew Kilarski, junior, CASA partial tuition waiver
  • Joliet: Janette Ramirez Baltazar, senior, Mossie Oak Automotive Technology Scholarship
  • LaSalle: Joseph Fink, junior, Ally Dealer Services Scholarship
  • Mount Prospect: Quin O’Brien, senior, CASA partial tuition waiver
  • Murphysboro: Ashley Nelson, senior, L.D. Willey Outstanding Student Award and James E. White Scholarship
  • Plainfield: Christina Klem, senior, Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc., Scholarship
  • Roscoe: Nathan Brady, senior, Duncan and Wilma Lampman Scholarship and the Arthur T. Ross Scholarship
  • Wheeling: Ninos Chimon, junior, attends Oakton Community College, Automotive Parts and Service Alliance (APSA) & Ralph Silverman Memorial Scholarship 

INDIANA

  • Evansville: Sam Peyton, senior, CASA tuition waiver
