Dance company to present ‘In Concert’ Dec. 2-3
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois Dance Company, a Registered Student Organization at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, brings contemporary, jazz, tap, hip-hop and more to the Furr Auditorium for “In Concert,” the annual fall dance presentation on Dec. 2-3.
The Dec. 2 performance begins at 7:30 p.m., and the Dec. 3 performance begins at 2 p.m. Furr Auditorium is in Pulliam Hall. Tickets are $10 for general admission, with student and senior citizen tickets available for $6 and tickets for children 15 years old and younger for $5. Tickets are on sale at the door beginning 30 minutes prior to each show.
“What do an engineer, a Chancellor’s Scholar, an SIU professor, and majors in economics, business management, sports administration, social work, accounting and biological sciences have in common? They are all choreographers for the Southern Illinois Dance Company,” Lori Merrill-Fink, the company’s new artistic director, said.
She noted that dance tells a story, with the choreographers using dance styles and music selections to tell their own. Audiences can expect a variety of styles, including solo performances, duets and selections for groups of dancers, with music selections including songs from Rihanna, X Ambassadors, Michel Bublé, Dexter Britain, Lukas Graham and others. The Willow Street Studios Dance Company is a special guest for “In Concert.”
SIDC has been a Registered Student Organization for more than 30 years, and remains committed to its mission: to promote and elevate the art of dance by showcasing student, community and faculty dance artists. The 2016 showcase will include four new apprentices selected to join the company.
