Exhibit showcases the history of SIU Press
SIU Press has been the university’s publishing imprint for 60 years. A new exhibit in the Hall of Presidents and Chancellors in Morris Library displays the history of the press and a glimpse at how it operates.
The press publishes books on Illinois and regional history, the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, theater, rhetoric and composition, the Crab Orchard Series in Poetry, and more. This display shows an array of books published. An animated video, “From Manuscript to Shelf,” walks viewers through the steps of the publishing process, from an author’s initial submission to the moment the book is in a reader’s hands.
The exhibit also traces the growth of technology in the publishing business, including e-books and the rise of social media for marketing. Visitors can also get a sneak peek at Saluki Publishing, the press’s soon-to-be-launched self-publishing platform for SIU students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The exhibit runs through Dec. 16.
