Volunteers sought for the ‘Big Event’

Faculty and staff are encouraged to help identify students to participate in a student-run, community service project next April.

“The Big Event: A Saluki Day of Service,” will be the largest, one-day, student-run community service project in SIU Carbondale’s history. On April 1, students, faculty and staff volunteers will join 110 campuses across the United States and abroad in completing projects for non-profit organizations.

Faculty and staff will also be encouraged to participate in the event. Students will comprise the student leadership team, and these leaders will recruit others to join them. Some of the benefits for being a student recruiter include:

  • Gain experience recruiting student volunteers.
  • Develop skills in marketing and communications.
  • Refine leadership skills.
  • Network with various SIU Carbondale constituencies.

More information about being a student recruiter and the event is available here. Applications close Sept. 16.
