CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A Summer Yoga Retreat with Jan Herzog is coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center Aug. 12-14.

The retreat features a variety of mixed-level classes including a minimum of three one-hour yoga breathing and meditation classes. There will be four yoga “asana” classes focusing on alignment and anatomy, upper back/shoulder opening, twists and hips, vinyasa flow and arm balance play. The weekend will incorporate yoga classes, meditation, and time to enjoy the surroundings with opportunities for swimming, canoeing, hiking, and quiet reflection.

Herzog is a longtime yoga practitioner and teacher with more than 1,000 hours of yoga teacher training. She is active in the yoga, bodywork and massage and has been an instructor for about 20 years. She continues to study with experts in the field and has led numerous retreats.

The retreat begins at 3 p.m. on Aug. 12 at Touch of Nature, located about eight miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road, and wraps up at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. Pre-registration is encouraged but participants may register at the retreat.

The cost, which includes five meals and all instruction and activities, is $250 for shared accommodations or $350 for a private room. Options are available for those with their own lodging arrangements or people who don’t want to have the meals. Group rates are available as well.
