Southern Illinois Music Festival opens May 27

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The 12th annual Southern Illinois Music Festival, a staple of Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s School of Music’s community outreach, features nearly three dozen performances in venues from Carbondale to Cairo, Murphysboro to Marion. 

The festival theme this year is “William Tell in 1776,” and runs May 27-June 13. The festival orchestra features members of the New Chicago Chamber Orchestra and international guest musicians and the festival includes orchestral, chamber, opera, ballet and jazz performances. Many events are free.
