Library to host ‘First Friday Music at Morris’

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Native American music will fill Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Morris Library at noon on Friday, Feb. 5.

The First Friday Music at Morris performance in the first-floor rotunda will feature native flute and drumming by Kathryn Hollister and Marsha Forest. The concert is free and open to the public.

Each Native American tribe had its own traditions and uses for music -- from celebrations to social occasions and more, and the music often reflects the connections between the people and nature and native spirituality. Hollister and Forest will celebrate the people and their music with flutes, whistles, drums, rattles and vocal performance.

Any musicians or musical groups interested in volunteering to perform future one-hour First Friday Music at Morris concerts are welcome to contact Kristine McGuire at kmcguire@lib.siu.edu or by calling 618/453-1633.
