Morris Library study hours extended
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The extended hours area of Morris Library on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus will be open two hours later during the spring semester, according to Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell.
“A number of students asked that we consider returning to later hours to provide commuters and others with study space that has wifi access,” Colwell said. “We listened, and we are pleased to be able to respond on a trial basis for the spring semester.”
The extended hours area on the library’s first floor includes study space and a lab with 24 computers and a networked printer. It will now be open until 2 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and until 8 p.m. Saturdays when classes are in session. The area will continue to close at 9 p.m. on Fridays. The new hours are effective today (Jan. 19), the first day of classes.
Regular hours for the main library are 7:30 a.m.-midnight Mondays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m.-midnight Sundays.
Colwell said the university will have staff on-site to monitor the extended hours area until closing. He added that the university will evaluate extended hours for future semesters based on the number of students who take advantage of them this spring.
“This is a great example of what can happen when students and staff work together to meet student needs,” he said
