Morris Library to host ‘Dawgs Meet Dogs’ next week

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Special furry friends are coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale prior to final exams to help students de-stress.

Morris Library is hosting Dawgs Meet Dogs from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 10 and 11. Trained service dogs will be on the lawn near the north entrance of the library for students to pet and play with. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved into the Browsing Room on the first floor of the library.

Supporting Independence through Teamwork (S.I.T.) Service Dogs of Ava is providing the specially trained canines, each having undergone countless hours of public access and skills training to be able to work well with people. Members of Saluki Service Dawgs, an SIU registered student organization that is co-sponsoring the event, will assist with the dogs during the sessions, which are open to everyone.

This is the fourth Dawgs Meet Dogs event and each of the previous sessions has drawn hundreds of students and other people to interact with the dogs.
