School of Music plans Holiday Jazz Concert

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale makes the holiday season cool by jazzing it up with the Holiday Jazz concert on Dec. 3.

The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra joins forces with the Studio Jazz Orchestra and New Arts Jazztet to present holiday music specially arranged in jazz forms by Dick Kelley and Phil Brown, both School of Music faculty members.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium. Tickets are $20, $8 for students, and free to SIU students with student ID. Get tickets at the SIU Arena or McLeod Theater box offices, by calling 618/453-6000 or online.

A pre-concert wine and cheese reception begins an hour before the concert in the balcony lobby. Trish Guyon, wife of the former chancellor, John C. Guyon, after whom the auditorium in Morris Library is named, and the SISO Patrons Committee host the event, which is a fundraiser for the orchestra. The reception includes entertainment by a student jazz combo. Tickets are $30 and are available by the same means as the concert tickets.
