CASA research symposium is Saturday
The second Applied Sciences and Arts Research Symposium, featuring presentations from faculty, research assistants and students, will take place Saturday, Nov. 21.
The symposium is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., primarily in the Student Center’s Mississippi, Kaskaskia and Missouri rooms. The event also features an IBM Watson Analytics Workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Morris Library’s John C. Guyon Auditorium, and poster presentations in the Student Center’s Old Main Lounge from 1 to 3 p.m.
There are 24 presentations and 31 posters, with presenters from SIU Carbondale, St. Louis University, Washington University, the University of Kansas, and Carbondale Community High School. In addition, students and faculty from Southeast Missouri State University will also attend the IBM workshop.
Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell, Andy Wang, dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, and Andrey Soares, assistant professor in Information Systems and Applied Technologies (ISAT) and symposium chair, will provide welcome messages at 9 a.m. Susan Ford, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, will be the guest speaker at lunch.
A panel discussion on “Big Data and Analytics,” will center on how data that ranges from patient health histories, automotive and vehicle performance information, and student academic results is being collected, processed, interpreted and analyzed.
