Popular Great Glass Pumpkin sale is Saturday

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Two student organizations at Southern Illinois University Carbondale offer sales of art that benefit art education and the community.

The Great Glass Pumpkin sale begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Carbondale Town Square pavilion, and lasts until the pumpkins are gone. Southern Glass Works, a Registered Student Organization, puts on the sale every year, creating one of the most beautiful and unusual pumpkin patches in the area. Proceeds bring visiting artists and professors to enhance the School of Art and Design glass program.

You can have your art and eat (from) it too at the Empty Bowls sale on Nov. 21 at the Neighborhood Co-op in the Murdale Shopping Center. The sale is 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and features soup bowls created by students in the School of Art and Design ceramics program. Those who buy a bowl may enjoy a cup of soup and know that the purchase benefits the Good Samaritan House in Carbondale. Bowls cost between $5 and $20.
