‘Democracy Now!’ co-host to speak Friday
Juan González, journalist, author and “Democracy Now!” co-host, will present a keynote lecture for Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9, in the SIU School of Law Hiram H. Lesar Law Building Auditorium.
González will speak during a panel discussion, “Citizenship, Solidarity and the Latino Quest for Belonging.” Angela Aguayo, associate professor, Cinema and Photography, and Cindy Buys, professor, School of Law, will also participate in the discussion. Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell will provide welcoming remarks.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
Gonzalez is the author of “Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America” and well-known Latino journalist. Gonzalez is a staff columnist for New York’s “Daily News.” “Democracy Now!” is a daily morning news show that airs on more than 1,200 community and public radio and television stations in the United States and Latin America.
The event is presented by the Hispanic/Latino Resource Center at SIU and the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.
