Seminar focuses on recent media law developments

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A seminar at Southern Illinois University Carbondale next week will address recent developments involving media law.

The event is from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, in the SIU School of Law Courtroom.  The seminar is free and open to the campus community and the public. John S. Jackson, visiting professor, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, will serve as moderator.

Topics and panelists are:

  • “Recent Developments in Illinois’ FOIA and Eavesdropping Law,” Esther J. Seitz, media law attorney, Donald M. Craven, P.C., law office, Springfield.
  • “Private Matters of Public Concern: Citizen Journalism as Watchdog and Hound,” Steven J. Macias, assistant professor, SIU School of Law.
  • “Ferguson and the First Amendment,” William H. Freivogel, professor, SIU Carbondale School of Journalism.
