Medical dosimetry graduates excel on exams
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Graduates from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Medical Dosimetry master’s degree program continue to excel on their certification exam.
Recently, 17 graduates took the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) exam and passed on their first attempt. The 100 percent pass rate by SIU Carbondale graduates compares to the national average pass rate of 78.5 percent for all accredited dosimetry programs. According to the MDCB, the average pass rate for everyone who took the exam this year was 67 percent. Scott Collins, director of the School of Allied Health, said SIU’s five-year average pass rate is 98.6 percent.
There are 18 Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited dosimetry programs and only three, including SIU Carbondale, offer a Master of Science degree.
A certified medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology (cancer treatment) team.
