‘Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics’ is Saturday
Approximately 100 girls will participate in 17 different workshops on Saturday, Oct. 26, during the annual “Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Math Conference” on campus. The conference gives girls in fifth- through ninth-grade hands-on workshops in science, math, technology and engineering. The conference, in its 23rd year, seeks to increase girls’ awareness on career opportunities in those areas and connect them with female role models who are in science-related careers. Several teachers and parents from throughout the region will participate, in addition to more than 30 professionals from SIU, local junior colleges and private companies who volunteer their time to plan and lead career exploration workshops.
