‘Grad Bash 2013’ offers fun, resources for students

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An event next month will provide important resources for Southern Illinois University Carbondale students who plan to graduate in May or December.

“Grad Bash 2013” will be part celebration and part information sharing for eligible students.  The event will bring together several campus groups and departments to assist students who are preparing to graduate.  The celebration is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 6, in the Student Center Ballrooms.

Students will be able to apply for graduation, order their caps and gowns, learn about graduate school opportunities, and meet with representatives of the SIU Alumni Association.  Students will also be able to register for alumni chapters or clubs, order class rings, register for “Alumni 101” and more.

“We had 225 attend last year’s first event, and they seemed appreciative of being able to handle so many aspects of graduation in one afternoon,” said Michelle Suarez, SIU Alumni Association executive director.  “We expect an even larger turnout this year, as students will be able to expedite the process of registering for graduation and learn about everything involved in that process.”

Representatives from Career Services will be on hand, as will members of the SIU Graduate School, SIU School of Law, and the SIU Online MBA program.  Students will also be able to order copies of their transcripts, or sign up for a Kaplan Practice Test -- which serves as a preparation for a variety of professional, academic and certification tests.

Contact the SIU Alumni Association at 618/453-2408 for more information on this event.
