Craft Shop offers ‘Kids’ School’s Out Art Days’

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- What happens when school isn’t in session for the kids and they want something different, something fun, to do on their day off?

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Center Craft Shop offers the answer with Kids’ School’s Out Art Days.  There are five special activity afternoons planned on days when many area schools have days off.

The Kids’ School’s Out Art Days are set for noon to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 and 20, April 6 and 20 and May 11.  Youngsters age seven and older are welcome to participate in all or part of the activities.

Each session begins with lunch at Blimpie’s from noon to 1 p.m. and the cost is $8.  Then, children will create a seasonal craft from 1 to 2:30 p.m.  The charge is $8.  Ceramics follows from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and the cost is $8 for children to create their very own item to take home.  Wrapping up the day is Kids’ Origami 4-4:30 p.m.  The charge is $5 to participate in this ancient paper-folding artwork.

Children must register in advance to participate and a maximum of 12 can join each session.  There must be at least three participants each afternoon.  The Craft Shop accepts payment by major credit cards, personal checks, Debit Dawg or cash.
