Auditions scheduled for theater productions

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Members of the Southern Illinois community are included in the invitation to audition for two upcoming theater productions at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Billy Budd

Auditions begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, at McLeod Theater (in the Communications Building).  Callbacks are Jan. 21, time to be announced later 

SIU Carbondale theater majors: prepare one serious monologue, 60-90 seconds long.

Community members: prepare a monologue; selections from the play will be available for reading.

Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis, or sign up for an audition time with the Department of Theater or sign up for a particular (available) time at 6:15 audition night.

Available roles: 20 actors; actors must be male or able to play a male.

“Billy Budd” is a world premiere of a David Rush pay, based on the Herman Melville novel.  Department of Theater chair J. Thomas Kidd directs.

“Billy Budd” is a sea adventure, in which a young and innocent sailor is accused of mutiny.

The play runs April 26-29 at the McLeod Theater.

Crave

Auditions for “Crave” begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, at the Christian H. Moe Theater (in the Communications Building).  Callbacks are Jan. 21 beginning at 1 p.m.

SIU Carbondale theater majors and community members: auditions are script readings and improvisational.

Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis, or sign up for an audition time with the Department of Theater or sign up for a particular (available) time at 6:45 audition night. SIU Carbondale theater majors should sign up for an audition time.

Available roles: two men, two women.

“Crave” is written by Sarah Kane (1971-1999), an English playwright known for her poetic writing and themes of redemptive love, and of the desire and pain that can accompany it. Graduate student Gabriela Ponce directs.

The play runs March 22-25 at the Christian H. Moe Theater.
